Students created self portraits based on the work of post-impressionist artist, Vincent Van Gogh. They began by learning about the proportions of the human face. Then students observed themselves in the mirror and drew themselves. They chose a paint color that matched their skin tone and painted their face. Next, students colored the shoulders and hair with oil pastels. Finally, students created a painterly background design on construction paper, cut out the portrait and glued it to the background.
